he Thurnscoe is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Thurnscoe Village falls within the Dearne North within the West Riding of Yorkshire, however, during the Roman times, The village was an also farming settlement and was even known as Turnesc in earlier times.

During the mining years in the 17th century the village of Thurnscoe employed 81% of all males in the area, it was also the many mining villages in the Yorkshire region that suffered levels of employment when the British coal mining industry closed Goldthorpe and Hickleton Colliery.

The small village also has a Railway station, located on the Wakefield line and north of the Sheffield Railway Station. Only stopping services call at the staff less station. If customers were to purchase a ticket, they can use the ticket machine on the platform or via the Trainline app.
